Custom Calacatta Gold Marble Table in Big Sky, MT
Project Backstory
For this Big Sky project, our client wanted a table that would earn its spot in the room, so we built a custom piece topped with Calacatta Gold Extra marble. The white background and warm, golden veining give the stone a soft glow that suits a mountain home without feeling heavy.
Marble like this is chosen for its movement, and no two slabs carry the same pattern. We selected the material and laid it out so the veining flows naturally across the top, letting the stone do the talking. Against the clean lines of a table, that natural detail reads as one of a kind rather than mass produced.
The piece also called for custom metal work, which we paired with the marble to support and frame the top. Matching a heavy stone surface to a metal base takes careful fabrication so the proportions feel right and the whole thing sits solid. The result is a working table that also holds its own as a standout piece in the room.

Marble is softer than granite or quartzite, so it can scratch and it can etch, which is a dull mark left when something acidic like lemon or wine sits on the surface. Resealing every so often, plus coasters under drinks, goes a long way toward keeping the top looking bright.
Calacatta marbles are known for a bright white background paired with bold, well-defined veining. The Gold versions carry warm beige and gold tones through those veins, which is where the name comes from. The Extra designation generally points to a premium selection with a cleaner background and more consistent movement, so each slab makes a strong visual statement.
